We Build SUN Into NW Homes

Sunroom on an Existing Deck

One of our most popular requests is to build a sunroom on an existing deck. This is a very cost effective way to make your favorite summer sitting place into your year round favorite, while adding living space and light to your family room, kitchen, dining room or master bedroom.

Our carpenters will expertly add the necessary beams, posts and footings to upgrade your deck to become the structural platform for your room. Later, it will be insulated between the joists, and subflooring added to recieve your choice of finish flooring.

Sunroom on a thickened edge slab
A sunroom can also be built on a thickened edge slab at ground level. This creates a beautiful "garden room" that integrates into your landscape. A 4" thick slab is poured with a 12"x12" perimeter footing. The subfloor is laid on top of the slab.
Filler Panels
Filler panels are an alternative to removing the existing eave overhang. The header of the sunroom is attached to the end of the overhang, and a glass panel is added below, this creates a smooth transition between the new addition and the existing house.
Gable End Wall
This classic design fits nicely against a wall or low-slope roof. The use of a cricket or false roof ensures that water is diverted away from the solarium and has the proper slope to drain. Crickets are also used when the height of the solarium at the ridge is greater than the height of the house wall.

Stemwalls
Stemwalls fullfill several different functions; they add a formal look and privacy, they are a place for added insulation and for electrical wiring. They also add shear strength to the sunroom, to resist side to side movement, as in an earthquake or severe windstorm.

Solid Panels
Solid panels help reduce solar heat gain overhead, provide a place for added insulation, and are an alternative for additional shear strength if the room has glass to the ground.

Windows and Doors
We can supply and install wood or vinyl windows, patio doors or store doors for fresh air and egress, and Vent Axia fans for extra ventilation
